The Last Raven — A Review for the Girls Who Root for the Underdog

Hello Gentle Readers!

Welcome back to my cozy little corner of the internet. This past weekend was a rainy one, so I did what every bookish girlie does when rain decides to take over the weekend…curled up in a pile of blankets with a warm cup of tea at my side and The Last Raven.

I'll be honest, I picked this book up purely because of the cover, and the fact that the love interest's name was the same as my hubby's. Ha! It was my very first vampire read, so my only prior knowledge of anything close to vampires came from the Twilight movies and of course Vampire Diaries.

I tore through this one. While the vampire world itself was incredibly compelling, what had me wanting more was our main character, Emelia Raven. Born human to two vampire parents and heir to the House of Raven, she finds herself destined to rule a world far stronger and darker than she is. She spends most of her time questioning how she could ever rule a people who see her as nothing more than a meal.

This story has a unique way of pulling you in and showing you both sides, the vampire world and the human one. Kyle offers her an escape from the sheltered life she's always lived. He's dangerous and adventurous, and together they experience the type of freedom they've always longed for. Despite falling hard and dreaming of a normal life in a human world without the heavy obligation of being Raven, Emelia learns quickly there's so much more than what she's known beyond her palace gates, and that realization has her questioning her entire life, her family, and what she really wants.

She discovers quickly that her greatest weakness is also her biggest strength in the world she lives in.

The Last Raven is one of those quick reads that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire ride. A story of self-discovery, forbidden romance, and the kind of heroine you can't help but root for.

With love,

Jasmine
